Marlink Launches Cyber Threat Detection Solution

Marlink is unveiling a unique and intelligent threat detection solution for the maritime industry at SMM 2018 this week.Cyber Detection, the latest addition to Marlink’s fully integrated ship and shore-based Cyber Guard portfolio, monitors all outbound and inbound network traffic around the clock and enables customers to view threats affecting their vessels through an intuitive, web-based dashboard. In addition, customers may also set-up notifications on critical threats to be received by email and/or SMS.

Inmarsat Unveils Fleet Data Service

Inmarsat has unveiled Fleet Data, a new Internet of Things (IoT) service, which will enable ship owners and managers to access and analyse real-time onboard data more efficiently, and as a result will help accelerate the adoption of IoT across the maritime industry.Developed in partnership with Danelec Marine, Fleet Data will record data from the onboard Voyage Data Recorder (VDR), and other vessel sensors, pre-process that data, and upload it to a central (cloud-based) database equipped with a dashboard and Application Process Interface (API).

Inmarsat Faces US, Chinese Competition in Maritime Safety

Britain's Inmarsat will lose its monopoly in maritime safety communications after the International Maritime Organization gave Iridium and China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System the green light to develop competing systems.Inmarsat's shares fell as much as 14 percent after U.S.-based Iridium said late Monday its network had been recognized as a provider of Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS).The stock was trading down 9 percent at 1345 GMT, while Iridium was up 4.7 percent in New York.Inmarsat announced the approval of its own new safety service and congratulated Iridium and B

Intellian, Inmarsat Embark On FleetBroadband Development

Inmarsat and Intellian have signed an outline agreement that will support enhancements to Inmarsat’s FleetBroadband service for the next decade and beyond. The new agreement will see Intellian design and manufacture a new generation of FleetBroadband terminals that will support the existing I-4 network alongside the major advances coming with Inmarsat’s sixth generation satellite constellation, the first of which is scheduled for launch in 2020. The next generation terminals will be significantly lower cost and feature a host of new capabilities, including much faster throughput speeds.

Inmarsat Sees Rough Sea Ahead

The satellite communications group Inmarsat plc cautions that with the slowdown in the global economy hitting shipping, satellite communications industry faces rough weather, according to a report in Reuters. The British company, which provides data and voice connections to shipping, warned that tough trading was set to persist in its maritime and government markets this year. "We are seeing modest growing headwinds in terms of global trade slowdown and increased scrappage and lay outs," Chief Executive Rupert Pearce said.

Fleet Management Selects Inmarsat's Fleet Xpress

Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress, which delivers maritime connectivity, has been specified by Hong Kong-based Fleet Management Limited, one of global shipping’s largest independent third-party ship managers. Fleet Management Limited (FML), which manages a large fleet of over 400 vessels consisting of bulk carriers, container vessels, general cargo ships, oil tankers, gas carriers and chemical tankers, with over 14,000 crew, has successfully upgraded all vessels previously equipped with Inmarsat’s XpressLink Ku-band service to Fleet Xpress.

Hapag-Lloyd, Inmarsat Ink Fleet Xpress Deal

Global mobile satellite communications services provider Inmarsat has signed a five-year contract with Hapag-Lloyd to migrate all ships directly managed by the shipping line to services enabled for Fleet Xpress. Hapag-Lloyd, the sixth largest container shipping operator in the world by Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) capacity, will transition all existing ships that it manages in-house from Inmarsat FleetBroadband services to Fleet Xpress. The agreement also covers five 10,500 TEU vessels as latest new builds.

NSSL Global Launches CC-LITE

Independent satellite communications provider NSSLGlobal has announced Cruise Control (CC) LITE, a new entry-level email management solution for the maritime sector. Created by NSSLGlobal, CC-LITE is compatible with both FleetBroadband and Iridium Open Port, meaning it can be integrated into a number of vessels across A1 to A4 regions. The CC-LITE email service enables reductions in satellite bandwidth usage and costs through an intelligent mix of usage policies and highly-efficient data compression that can save up to 75 percent per message.

Wallem Group, Inmarsat Sign Fleet Xpress Deal

Inmarsat has reached an agreement with Wallem Group, one of the largest and ship management companies in the industry, establishing the phase-in of Fleet Xpress as its favored connectivity choice for ships at sea. Already contracted for over 10,000 vessels since it was launched just over one year ago with a rapidly increasing share of the VSAT market, Fleet Xpress delivers high-speed broadband to the maritime market through a unique combination of Ka-band backed up by the mobility and reliability of FleetBroadband using Inmarsat’s L-band capabilities.

Inmarsat to Deliver Fleet Xpress with SpeedCast

The Broadband of Competitive Advantage

Inmarsat Maritime President Frank Coles said the efficiency gains of the “Maritime Industrial Internet” are at hand, if only shipowners can grasp the potential for competitive advantage. The first satellite in the Global Xpress fleet will complete all of its testing by July of this year, with the second and third satellites on schedule to be launched by the close of 2014. Inmarsat, KVH Industries Sign Reciprocal Distribution Agreement

Inmarsat and KVH Industries, Inc., today announced the signing of a reciprocal distribution agreement with immediate effect. Inmarsat Join Forces with World-Link
