Golden Ocean Group Limited (GOGL) reported a net income of $9.0 million for the second quarter of 2018, compared to net loss of $12.0 million for the second quarter of 2017.The Norway based dry bulk shipping company has entered into a $120 million loan facility to refinance 10 vessels on favorable terms. Deltamarin Bags Ro-pax Design Contract
Deltamarin Ltd has signed a contract with Chinese Guangzhou Shipyard International Co, Ltd (GSI) for consultancy and engineering services for the DFDS ro-pax ferries. Deltamarin earlier carried out contract design of the ship concept for GSI in cooperation with the owner. Deltamarin will provide the yard with basic (approval) and detail design together with Safe Return to Port (SRtP) documentation. The contract covers all disciplines and all areas. The value of Deltamarin’s contract with GSI is about €5 million ($6.2 million).

Low Bunker Prices Benefit Ship Owners in 2015
As 2015 draws to a close and the Worldscale Organisation published the new 2016 Flat Rates, Poten and Partners goes through the annual exercise of updating Flat Rates in its systems. This highlighted once again the significant changes in bunker prices that occurred over the last 2 years. The Worldscale Organisation calculates Flat Rates based on average bunker prices over the period from October 1 of the prior year to September 30. The 2015 Flat Rates were based on Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) prices of $614.81/metric tonne (MT) while the 2016 Flat Rates use prices of $367.55/MT, a reduction of 40%.
Interlake Steamship to Install Scrubbers on 2 More Ships
Following the implementation of exhaust gas scrubbers on its self-unloading bulk carrier M/V Hon. James L. Oberstar, the Interlake Steamship Company has announced its plans to expand its emission-reduction efforts to one-third of its fleet by installing similar scrubber systems on the M/V Lee A. Tregurtha and M/V James R. Barker early next year. In April 2015, Interlake became the first U.S.-flag fleet to test freshwater scrubbers on the Great Lakes when the system became operational on the 806-foot Oberstar.
Interlake Steamship Nears Final Stage of $100m Fleet Upgrade
The Interlake Steamship Company announced that it will repower its last steamship, the S.S. Herbert C. Jackson, with a highly automated diesel propulsion system in the final phase of a 10-year, $100 million modernization effort to create the most efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly fleet on the Great Lakes. The six-month diesel conversion, which is slated to begin in mid-December, is the fifth major overhaul to Interlake’s fleet and its fourth steam-to-diesel conversion since 2006.
