Mitsui, Hoegh Establish EML

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (Tokyo) and Höegh Autoliners AS (Oslo) have set up a 50/50 joint venture in Europe, integrating the existing European short sea and logistics activities of both shareholders and of Euro Marine Carrier BV. The new company, named Euro Marine Logistics NV (EML), was registered in March 2011 and has its offices in Meise (Brussels), Belgium. EML is a common carrier and started trading in the second week of June. From the third quarter 2011, EML will operate 13 vessels in European waters, and will be among the top three vehicle short sea operators in Europe.

SOHAR Port Signs Contract with Dredging International

SOHAR Port and Freezone have signed an agreement with Dredging International NV – Earth Moving Worldwide LTD (DINV-EMW JV) for the development of Phase 1 of the SOHAR Port South Construction Package I. Totalling an investment of USD 24mn (approx. OMR 9.24mn), the agreement will see the development of the first 50 hectares of useable land within the new port expansion; which is expected to be fully completed by Q4 2018. The agreement was signed on April 18 at a ceremony held at SOHAR Port and Freezone head office in Sohar.

Samskip Nor Lines' Service to Call Rotterdam

Samskip subsidiary Nor Lines will include calls at Rotterdam for the first time in its weekly multipurpose liner service connecting to Western, Mid and Northern Norway, with effect from June 1st. The service is provided by Nor Lines' state of the art, LNG-fuelled vessels MV Kvitnos and MV Kvitbjorn. These flexible ships will sail in 14-day loops, connecting Rotterdam and Eemshaven with Norwegian ports from Hammerfest in the far north, and taking in calls including Sandnes/Tananger, Bergen, Trondheim, Ålesund, Bodo and Tromso.

Alphatron Marine Appoints Regional Manager

Alphatron Marine announced it has appointed Erik van Boom as country manager for the Euro border region Scheldemonden.   With recent changes in Belgium, where Alphatron Marine has taken over the sales and service activities of maritime navigation and communication equipment of Astron NV, expansion in the region was required, the company said.    In his new role, van Boom will leverage more than 25 years of experience in the maritime navigation and communication sector to help support the growth of Alphatron Marine.  

Dockwise Encouraged by Increased Offer

Dockwise ltd has taken notice of this morning's release on the agreement between Boskalis Westminster NV ("Boskalis") and Project Holland Fonds whereby the latter has committed to sell their shares in Dockwise for a price of Euro 18 per share.   Dockwise is encouraged by the increase in price by 5% from Euro 17.20 to Euro 18 per share but is of the opinion that this increased price does still not sufficiently reflect the value of Dockwise ltd. Dockwise will continue the dialogue with Boskalis on the conditions of the intended offer including their request for due diligence.

Liebherr Records Its Best-ever Turnover

Switzerland based equipment manufacturer Liebherr Group reports its 2017 turnover was the highest in the group's history, with total sales of €9,845 million.The company’s 2017 revenue increased 9.3 percent compared to the previous year, a trend the group says it believes will continue in 2018.The group posted a net result of €331 million for 2017, an increase of €33 million or 11.1 percent compared to the previous year.Liebherr reported a significant improvement in the operating result in the reporting year.

Agreement Paves Way for South African Offshore Supply Base

South Africa’s first dedicated and customized facility supporting offshore oil and gas activities will be introduced at the Port of Saldanha. This follows the conclusion of an agreement between Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and Saldehco Pty Ltd, which was signed off at an official ceremony at the port on Monday, 23 April 2018.Saldehco is a privately owned South African company, comprising principal shareholder HARPS Holdings Pte Limited and local partner Semona Pty Limited.

Imtech Acquires Techsol Marine

Imtech N.V. acquired the Canadian marine company Groupe Techsol Marine. This strategic acquisition means that Imtech has now a high-tech marine production site available in Canada. The acquisition also strengthens Imtech's service and maintenance foothold in North-America. With over 100 employees, Groupe Techsol Marine realises annual revenues of around 20 million euro. DFDS to Buy U.N. Ro-Ro in $1.2 Bln Deal

Danish shipping and logistics company DFDS has agreed to buy Turkish freight shipping operator U.N. Ro-Ro from Turkish private equity firms Actera Group and Esas Holdings for 950 million euros ($1.17 billion) on a debt-free basis. It marks a change of course for the Turkish company, which had planned an initial public offering for up to 57.7 percent of the company, a draft prospectus showed last month. U.N. Ro-Ro operates five freight shipping routes between Turkey, Italy and France. DFDS said U.N.

GAC Dubai Wins Supply Chain Award

For the second consecutive year, GAC Dubai has been named the FMCG Supply Chain of the Year in the Logistics Middle East Awards. Grimaldi Christens Grande New York

The Grande New York, part of the new fleet of the Grimaldi Group, was christened in the Port of NY-NJ at Port Newark Auto Marine Terminal (FAPS). Godmother was Amanda Matilda Cuomo Cole, granddaughter of former late NY Governor, Mario Cuomo and niece of current NY Governor Andrew Cuomo. Father Peter Haldás of St. John Paul II blessed the ship during a short ceremony to a distinguished delegation composed of maritime authorities, customers, port operators and managers of Grimaldi Group and daughter company Atlantic Container Line.

Imtech Receives the 'Royal' Designation

Imtech N.V. (IM-AE, technical services provider in Europe and on the global marine market) announces that Her Royal Highness the Queen of the Netherlands has decided to grant Imtech N.V. the right to use the designation 'Royal'. Bollore Transport & Logistics Net Profit Jumps

Pangaea Logistics Acquires Panamax Bulker

Pangaea Logistics Solutions, a global provider of comprehensive maritime logistics solutions, announced that it has signed a memorandum of agreement to acquire the 2006 Imabari-built panamax M/V Madeleine for $14.2M to enhance the company's bulk fleet. This new vessel is set to be renamed and will be fully utilized in the Noranda trade, supporting Pangaea's continuous transportation capabilities to Noranda Alumina and Noranda Bauxite on a long-term contractual basis. The acquisition adds to Pangaea's fleet of panamax, ultramax and supramax ships used for supply chain logistics and shipping.

Shipbuilders, Fincantieri, publish its 2012 financial results; announce resignation of Chairman Corrado Antonini. ·         Order portfolio at euro 7,817 million (euro 8,361 million in 2011). Commercially, Fincantieri succeeded in making the best of the available opportunities, finalizing agreements for new orders, including options, worth a total of euro 6.5 billion. This figure includes euro 1.4 billion in finalized contracts, while the remaining agreements are all subject to finalization of the related financial packages.

MSC Acquires Portugal Intermodel CP Carga

Swiss  Mediterranean Shipping Co. (MSC) has finalized the acquisition of CP Carga, the freight and logistics unit of Portugal’s state-owned railway. MSC Rail, railway company of MSC, has completed the acquisition of the CP Carga - Logística e Transportes Ferroviários de Mercadorias SA, railway company established in 2009 and formerly owned by the group's entire public rail Portuguese Combois de Portugal (CP). The acquisition plan for of 95 percent of the rail freight carrier was formalized  and announced last year, but the Portuguese authorities gave their consent in December 2015.

SCH to Handle Renault Vehicles in Southampton

Roll-on/roll-off cargo handlers Southampton Cargo Handling (SCH) said it has secured the stevedoring contract to handle all Renault vehicles being shipped through the Port of Southampton. The move follows the success of Euro Marine Logistics (EML), a joint venture project between Mitsui OSK Lines and Hoegh Autoliners, in winning the shipping contract for some 60,000 Renault vehicles a year that pass through Southampton. EML is making calls every four days in the port after loading vehicles in France and Spain.
