CMA CGM Group Cut Emission by 17%

Since 2015, CO2 emissions per container transported per kilometer have been reduced by 17%, said CMA CGM Group, the shipping and logistics giant."The Group has achieved a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions per container transported per kilometer between 2005 and 2015. Rotterdam Port Hails North Sea Agreement

The Port of Rotterdam Authority considers it vital that the North Sea Consultation works towards a North Sea Agreement in the coming six months. This consultation is investigating where on the North Sea the challenges regarding food, energy and nature can be combined and where choices will need to be made.The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) is initiator of this consultation. CMA CGM Orders 10 Boxships from China

CMA CGM chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé has signed two strategic partnerships with Lei Fanpei, chairman of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), including an order of 10 containership newbuilds, as well as an agreement to jointly develop more efficient and environmentally-friendly vessels.The deals were signed Monday in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping, on the occasion of the latter’s State visit to France.The 10 new Chinese-built 15,000-TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) vessels will each measure 366 meters long.

Partnership to Test Sustainable Marine Bio-Fuel Oil

IKEA Transport & Logistics Services, CMA CGM, the GoodShipping Program and the Port of Rotterdam have announced they will cooperate in a first of its kind partnership to test and scale the use of sustainable marine bio-fuel oil. First Mega-Boxship Retrofit to LNG Ordered

Hapag-Lloyd pilot gas-conversion leads the way for emissions reduction and decarbonizationMAN Energy Solutions has signed a contract for the conversion of a 15,000 TEU container vessel to dual-fuel operation. The container vessel MV SAJIR is owned by Hapag-Lloyd, a leading liner shipping companies, and normally serves a route from Asia to northern Europe via the Suez canal. The pilot project will entail the conversion of an existing, HFO-burning MAN B&W 9S90ME-C engine to a dual-fuel MAN B&W ME-GI (-Gas Injection) prime mover capable of running on HFO and LNG.

Rotterdam Port Achieves TEU Milestone in 2018

Europe's largest port, the Port of Rotterdam ended 2018 with a total container throughput at 469.0 million tonnes (MT) which slightly higher than in 2017,  which was itself a record year (467.4 MT).Container transhipment was the engine of growth again, with a 4.5% increase in tonnage. Measured in TEUs, the standard unit for containers, the increase was 5.7% and the annual total was 14.5 million TEUs – also a record.This strengthens the position of Europe’s largest container port in this strategically important market segment.

BIMCO to IMO: "Use Real Data"

BIMCO, the largest of the international shipping associations representing shipowners, has proposed that the Fourth International Maritime Organization (IMO) Greenhouse Gas Study does not include unrealistically high gross domestic product (GDP) growth projections to predict future transport demand - and thereby emissions - of the shipping industry.“It is imperative that the industry – and the world – base discussions and actions to reduce emissions from shipping on credible and realistic projections.

Titan LNG, Fluxys to Build FlexFueler 002

Belgium-based natural gas transmission system operator Fluxys and Netherlands-based Titan LNG have joined forces to build the FlexFueler 002, a bunkering pontoon to make liquefied natural gas (LNG) more widely available as shipping fuel in the Antwerp port and region.Shipyard Kooiman, Zwijndrecht, The Netherlands, was contracted to build the FlexFueler 002. The pontoon, which is scheduled to be commissioned by mid-2020, will measure 76.4 x 11.45 m and is equipped with four vacuum insulated type C cargo tanks of 370 cu. m. each, to carry liquid LNG.

With expected growth of 5.1% compared with last year, 2018 looks set to be a record year for the Port of Antwerp for the sixth time in a row."In 2019 the Port Authority will keep to the same course, further building a sustainable future for the port. Port of Amsterdam CEO Koen Overtoom and ten other Amsterdam residents have been named Energy Commissioners by Platform 02025, a non-profit that aims to make Amsterdam a leader in clean energy.Amsterdam port said in a press release that the appointment was co-initiated by the National Energy Committee, which is headed by the National Energy Commissioner, Ruud Koornstra.Platform 02025 seeks to motivate and inspire Amsterdam residents to transition to clean, safe and natural energy by 2025.

Rotterdam Port Contributes USD 51.86 billion to Netherlands

USD 51.86 billion (EUR 45.6 billion) or 6.2% of the added value of the Netherlands is due to the Port of Rotterdam. This emerged in ‘The Rotterdam effect - Impact of Mainport Rotterdam on the Dutch economy’ study conducted by Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR), commissioned by the Port Authority.Port of Rotterdam pointed out that it contributes twice as much to the gross domestic product than previously calculated. Traditionally, when determining the economic significance of the port, only direct employment and added value were measured, including the so-called backwards indirect effects.

Port Groups Join for Go Green Initiative

Port of Rotterdam Throughput Edges Down

Total throughput in the port of Rotterdam in the first three quarters of 2018 was 0.4% lower than in the same period the previous year.According to a release from the port, container volumes continued to grow at a markedly higher pace than the first nine months of 2017 – even recording a new all-time high in August.Wet and dry bulk, however, showed a decline in volume – although LNG and biomass were two positive outliers within these product segments. SMM Launches with High-Profile Guest Speakers

At today’s opening press conference of the international maritime trade fair in Hamburg, political and business leaders discussed current challenges facing the shipping industry. The focus of the debate was on the 0.5 percent sulphur limit for ship fuels which will take effect on January 1,  2020, and the industry's goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping in half by the year 2050. The port of Rotterdam achieved throughput of 232.8 million tonnes in the first six months of 2018. Gas to Overtake Oil as Primary Energy Source by Mid-2030s

Nearly two-thirds (64%) of oil and gas sector leaders expect to increase or sustain spending on gas projects in 2018, as the sector prepares for gas to overtake oil as the world’s primary energy source in the mid-2030s. Confidence in the case for gas is growing, according to a survey by DNV GL, the technical advisor to the industry. The vast majority (86%) of the 813 senior industry professionals surveyed agree that gas - the least carbon-intensive fossil fuel - will play an increasingly important role in the global energy mix over the next decade, up from 77% last year.

Shell, AET Deal for LNG Aframaxes

Malaysian-owned global shipping company specialising in the ocean transport of crude oil and refined products  AET Tankers and Shell International Trading and Shipping Company  formalised arrangements for the long-term charter of AET’s two newbuild liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuelled Aframax tankers. AET’s two 113,000 dwt vessels are currently being built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and are due for delivery from Q3 of 2018. The arrangements will see Shell take both vessels on a long-term charter commencing in Q4 of this year.

Share Holders Okay Macquarie, Goldman Sachs to Acquire HES International

Riverstone Holdings and The Carlyle Group jointly announce that  they intend to sell HES International to a consortium of Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) & Goldman Sachs. Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 5, which is managed by MIRA, and West Street Infrastructure Partners III (WSIP), which is managed by the Merchant Banking Division of Goldman Sachs, have reached an agreement in principle with Riverstone Holdings and The Carlyle Group to acquire HES International.
