Finnlines Orders MAN Propulsion Package for New RoRos

MAN Energy Solutions has won the order to supply six MAN B&W 9S50ME-C9.6 Tier II-compliant main engines for three 238-meter roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels intended for operation in the Baltic Sea. The customer is Finnlines PLC., the Finnish shipping company and part of the Grimaldi Group. MAN Energy Solutions’ two-stroke licensee – Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (Engine & Machinery Business Unit) – will build the engines in Korea, while Nanjing Jinling shipyard in China will construct the vessels.

MSC Isabella, Largest Boxship to Call in Singapore Port

The 23,656 teu MSC Isabella became the largest containership to call the Port of Singapore when it berthed on 10 November 2019.The MSC’s Gülsün-Class of container vessels is currently the world’s largest series of container ships.To date, MSC Isabella is the biggest container ship to call at Singapore, the world’s top transshipment hub. Measuring around 400 meters long and 61 meters wide, the ship can carry up to 24 rows of containers, with a height of 13 tiers on deck. Its total capacity is 23,656 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units).

German Trains to Run on Offshore Wind

German Rail (Deutsche Bahn – DB) has closed Germany’s first power purchase agreement (PPA) to buy electricity from an offshore wind farm.German Rail has signed a five-year deal starting in 2024 to buy the output of 25MW, or 8%, of the 295MW Nordsee Ost wind farm in the North Sea from utility Innogy and RWE Supply & Trading.The contract will run for five years, beginning in 2024. Gas to Overtake Oil as Primary Energy Source by Mid-2030s

Nearly two-thirds (64%) of oil and gas sector leaders expect to increase or sustain spending on gas projects in 2018, as the sector prepares for gas to overtake oil as the world’s primary energy source in the mid-2030s. Confidence in the case for gas is growing, according to a survey by DNV GL, the technical advisor to the industry. The vast majority (86%) of the 813 senior industry professionals surveyed agree that gas - the least carbon-intensive fossil fuel - will play an increasingly important role in the global energy mix over the next decade, up from 77% last year.

Grimaldi Group Orders New RoRo Vessels

In the framework of the expansion and modernisation programme of its owned fleet, as anticipated in the last months, the Grimaldi Group has signed yesterday an agreement for the construction of six ro/ro vessels, for a total investment worth over USD 400 million. Coal: India's Energy Mainstay for Next 30 Years

Rolls-Royce Wins Deal to Power USN TAO

Rolls-Royce won a contract to supply diesel generators, propellers and shaft lines for the US Navy’s new fleet replenishment oiler ships, the John Lewis Class. Planned to total 17 ships, the new John Lewis class (previously known as TAO – X) will increase the US Navy’s capability to transfer fuel to its surface ships, in operations around the globe. For each ship, Rolls-Royce will supply two Kamewa 150A Controllable Pitch Propellers (CPP), while two Bergen B32:40xL8A generator sets will provide power to satisfy on board energy requirements.

ExxonMobil’s 'Outlook for Energy' forecasts new opportunities for international trade and economic growth. The global energy landscape will evolve significantly as regional demand-and-supply patterns shift in the coming decades, creating new opportunities for international trade and economic growth, says newly-releaed 'Outlook for Energy: A View to 2040'. LNG-powered Viking Grace Re-defines Ferry Travel

Lloyd’s Register significantly helped the vessel’s owners & builders work through the complexities of 'Viking Grace's' novel design features. Finland’s Viking Line recently notched up a world first when it launched Viking Grace, the most environmentally friendly large passenger ship, at STX Finland Turku shipyard. The 56,000 gt vessel is powered by LNG and generates no marine emissions and very few air emissions. The vessel has been designed to operate in the delicate and environmentally sensitive waters of the Baltic Sea where she will operate between Turku and Stockholm from January, 2013.

LR: LNG's Global Viability Hinges on Price
