PSA International Buys Canada's Halterm

Singapore-based port operator PSA International has completed the acquisition of Halterm Container Terminal in the Port of Halifax, Canada, from Macquarie Infrastructure Partners."PSA International Pte Ltd concluded the purchase of the terminal from Macquarie Infrastructure Partners after formal approval by regulatory authorities, " said a PSA news release issued on Wednesday night.Halterm is the only container terminal in Eastern Canada that can serve mega container vessels.

Port Saint John Cargo Volume up 15%

Year-over-year total cargo tonnage at Port Saint John, Eastern Canada’s largest port by volume, increased by over 4 million metric tonnes in 2017. Overall cargo tonnage handled for the year 2017 was 30,458,422 metric tonnes, a 15% increase over 2016. All cargo sectors, aside from the anticipated exception of containers, experienced significant gains in 2017. Additionally, the loss experienced in containerized cargo was lessened due the introduction of a new weekly container service by CMA CGM in 2017.

Port of Québec Proposes New Box Terminal

The Québec Port Authority (QPA) announced plans to build a new $400 million container terminal as the port seeks to offer a competitive alternative in the St. Lawrence–Great Lakes market. US LNG Exports to Increase: EIA

U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)'s latest Short-Term Energy Outlook projects that the United States will export more natural gas than it imports in 2017. The U.S. has been a net exporter for three of the past four months and is expected to continue to export more natural gas than it imports for the rest of 2017 and throughout 2018. The nation’ status as a net exporter is expected to continue past 2018 because of growing U.S. natural gas exports to Mexico, declining pipeline imports from Canada, and increasing exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Tanker with Disputed Kurdish Oil Reappears off Malta

The Neverland tanker has reappeared off the coast of Malta after going off radar near Canada on June 30, when it was chartered by oil trader Vitol carrying Iraqi Kurdish crude oil, Reuters ship-tracking showed on Friday. The tanker had been heading to eastern Canada to discharge the cargo at the end of June when the Federal Court of Canada issued a seizure order for the cargo at the request of Iraq's oil ministry. Iraq alleges the cargo was unlawfully misappropriated by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and sold to Vitol.

Traditional, Project Cargoes Transit St. Lawrence Seaway in November

“November was a good month for the export of agricultural products and shipments of aluminum ingots on the Great Lakes Seaway System,” said Betty Sutton, Administrator of the U.S. Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation. “Under the binational trade development program known as ‘Highway H2O’, the U.S. Sutton added, “The U.S. Great Lakes ports of Toledo, Ohio; Duluth, Minn.; Burns Harbor, Ind.; and Milwaukee, Wis. handled corn, soybeans and wheat exports bound for Europe, South America, and Central America.

TGS, PGS Team Up on Eastern Canada Seismic

TGS announces the expansion of its multi-client library offshore Eastern Canada with plans to acquire more than 36,000 km of 2D seismic data, in partnership with PGS, utilizing two vessels during the 2016 acquisition season. The M/V Sanco Spirit and M/V Atlantic Explorer, utilizing the PGS GeoStreamer technology, will acquire seismic and gravity data in the Labrador Sea, Newfoundland Orphan-Flemish Pass basins and Grand Banks areas. Data acquisition will commence during late May 2016.

St. Lawrence Seaway LNG Dual-fuel Ferries Ordered

Chantier Davie Canada contracted to build two dual-fuel Ro-Pax ferries for La Société des traversiers du Québec. The two dual-fuel LNG Ro-Pax ferries will operate on the St. Lawrence River on the Tadoussac-Baie-Sainte-Catherine route and are due to enter service in 2015. At 92 m long, each vessel will have over 625 lane meters across two decks, allowing the transport of over 115 vehicles and 10 heavy goods vehicles. Cruise ship 'Lyubov Orlova' broke free while on tow from St. John's NL, Canada for scrap in the Dominican Republic. In bad weather on 24, January  the towline parted, and the Canadian authority Transport Canada ordered the tugboat Charlene Hunt to return to port a few days later. Recent christening at Ocean Industries Shipyard of the largest dredge ever built in Eastern Canada, the 'Ocean Traverse Nord'.
