LNG Powered ConRo Ship Delivered to Crowley

U.S. based Crowley Maritime Corp. has taken delivery of one of the world’s first combination container/roll on-roll off (ConRo) ships powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), from shipbuilder VT Halter Marine Inc. The Jones Act compliant El Coquí is the first of two Commitment Class, LNG-powered ConRo ships being built for Crowley’s shipping and logistics services between Jacksonville, Fla., and San Juan, Puerto Rico.Operated by Crowley’s global ship management group, El Coquí will make its maiden voyage to San Juan later this month from Jacksonville (JAXPORT), its dedicated U.S. mainland port.

Eagle, Crowley Supply LNG to Puerto Rico

Crowley Fuels and Eagle LNG Partners have signed a multi-year agreement to provide a pharmaceutical company in Puerto Rico with containerized liquefied natural gas (LNG), an expansion of LNG supply chain services for customers seeking cleaner, cost-effective alternative fuel. “Crowley is pleased to be partnering with Eagle LNG to serve our customer in Puerto Rico, who will benefit from full supply chain solutions while using a fuel source that offers strong reliability and lower emissions for industrial and commercial uses,” said Crowley’s Greg Buffington, Vice President, LNG.

ExxonMobil Joins with Eagle LNG, Crowley on LNG Marine Fueling

ExxonMobil, Eagle LNG Partners LLC (Eagle LNG Partners) and Crowley have signed an agreement to collaborate on the development of LNG as a marine fuel. The goal is to establish the storage and technical support necessary to provide safe, reliable LNG delivery for vessel operators bunkering in North America. The three companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 27, 2017. The parties will initially focus their efforts in Florida before expanding to other North American markets.

Crowley’s Newest LNG-fueled ConRo Ship Launched

VT Halter Marine has launched the second of Crowley Maritime Corp.’s new Commitment Class ships, Taíno, one of the world’s first combination container/roll on-roll off (ConRo) vessels powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Taíno will now proceed through the final topside construction and testing phase at the shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., before beginning service in the U.S. Jones Act trade in 2018. She will join sister ship, El Coquí, which was launched earlier this year and is now in final testing prior to entering service in early 2018.

Eagle LNG Joins SEA\LNG Coalition

The recently formed cross-industry coalition SEA\LNG is growing, now with the addition of bulk LNG provider Eagle LNG Partners as the first new industry partner to the coalition. SEA\LNG is a multi-sector industry coalition that aims to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. Officially launched in July this year, founding partners include Carnival Corporation & plc, DNV GL, ENGIE, ENN, GE, GTT, Lloyd’s Register, Mitsubishi Corporation, NYK Line, Port of Rotterdam, Qatargas, Shell, TOTE Inc. and Wärtsilä.

WISTA Sets Sail into the Future

More than 225 shipping and trading executives from 30 countries joined the Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) aboard the ms Koningsdam, Holland America Line's newest vessel, on November 9 for the WISTA 2016 International Conference and Annual General Meeting. The Conference, hosted by WISTA USA under the leadership of its President, Alexandra Anagnostis-Irons of Total Marine Solutions, featured the Annual General Meeting (AGM), a robust Conference program agenda, and a variety of workshops designed to transfer knowledge on the industry, leadership, and growth.
