Gulftainer Signs 50-year Lease for Port of Wilmington

The Interlake Steamship Company’s M/V Lee A. Tregurtha sailed today from Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., becoming the shipper’s third self-unloading bulk carrier to be outfitted with exhaust gas scrubbers. Interlake became the first U.S.-flag fleet to test scrubbers on the Great Lakes in April 2015 after pioneering the emission-reduction technology on its M/V Hon. James L. Oberstar. The M/V James R. Interlake Steamship to Install Scrubbers on 2 More Ships

Following the implementation of exhaust gas scrubbers on its self-unloading bulk carrier M/V Hon. James L. Oberstar, the Interlake Steamship Company has announced its plans to expand its emission-reduction efforts to one-third of its fleet by installing similar scrubber systems on the M/V Lee A. Tregurtha and M/V James R. Barker early next year. In April 2015, Interlake became the first U.S.-flag fleet to test freshwater scrubbers on the Great Lakes when the system became operational on the 806-foot Oberstar.

AEU, DuPont Partner for Safety Training

The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. Motupally Named COO of Doosan Fuel Cell

Doosan Fuel Cell has appointed Dr. Sathya Motupally as its chief operating officer (COO), the company’s president and CEO Jeff Hyungrak Chung announced. Maritime Security Experts Meet in Jacksonville

Maritime security experts are gathering this week at Maritime Security 2015 East in Jacksonville, Florida, to exchange information and ideas, as well as learn about and see emerging technologies and operational concepts in action. Presentations were made by speakers from the Navy and Coast Guard, along with state, city and local organizations with maritime security and law enforcement responsibilities. The event is taking place at the Jacksonville JAXPORT Cruise Terminal. A dramatic on water demonstration was led by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Shell Board Appoints Holliday as Chairman

Royal Dutch Shell plc’s board of directors has appointed Charles O. Holliday as chairman with effect from the conclusion of the 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM), subject to his reappointment as a director of the company by shareholders at the AGM. Holliday will succeed Jorma Ollila who will step down from the board after having served as chairman for nine years. Holliday was appointed as the company’s nonexecutive director in September 2010, and is currently chairman of the corporate and social responsibility committee and member of the remuneration committee.

Maersk Demonstrates BELCO Scrubber Technology

Belco Technologies Corporation (BELCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont, has partnered with the Maersk Group to successfully demonstrate BELCO Marine Scrubber technology aboard the Maersk Tukang, a containership with max TEU Capacity of 8,112. The BELCO Marine Scrubber was tested over six days in May 2014 as it sailed from the Port of Algeciras, Spain, to Genoa, Italy. Representatives from BELCO and Maersk were on board, along with a surveyor from the American Bureau of Shipping who was there to witness and monitor the full testing as the system awaits class certification…

Keppel Wins 34 Safety Awards

Keppel Group has clinched a record 34 safety awards at this year's Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Awards. It is the highest number by a single organization since the awards were introduced in 2006 by the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore. The Group bettered its previous showing of garnering 26 awards last year. The 34 awards were spread out across its three businesses, which is a first for the Group. Its offshore and marine division was bestowed 25 safety awards for achieving zero incidents on its newbuild and conversion projects.

BELCO and A.P. Moller - Maersk Ink Exhaust Gas Cleaning Contract

Demonstration Aboard the Maersk Taurus Containership. Belco Technologies Corporation (BELCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont, headquartered in Parsippany, N.J., USA, has reached an agreement with A.P. Moller – Maersk, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, to design, manufacture and supply the BELCO advanced marine scrubbing system for demonstration on one of the auxiliary engines aboard the Maersk Taurus. The system will be designed to remain on board as a commercial installation following the successful demonstration.
