Memorial Fund Set Up for Families of Lost Fishing Crew

Joining members of the maritime community to assist families of the six crew members of the FV Destination that went missing in the Bering Sea on February 11, 2017, Peoples Bank is now collecting donations for the families of the missing crew members. Donations to the F/V Destination Memorial Fund can be made at all Peoples Bank locations throughout Western Washington, and Peoples Bank, a long-time banking partner for the North Pacific Fleet, will not take any fees associated with the contributions made to this fund.

New UK Hydrographic Office Chair Appointed

Adam Singer has been appointed to the role of Chair of the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) for three years. He takes over the role from Sandra Rogers who has served on the Hydrographic Office Board for 13 years. Adam is currently Chairman of the British Screen Advisory Council, Digital Radio UK, and the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society. He is also on the Board of Trustees for The Sixteen, one of the U.K.’s leading choral groups. Adam has worked in broadcasting and telecoms in the U.K., U.S., France and Japan.

Zajonc Named to Tecton Board of Directors

Tecton Corporation (TTNC) announced that Guy Zajonc has joined its Board of Directors. Company CEO, Micah J. Eldred commented, "We are pleased to have Guy join our team. Guy M. Mr. Zajonc is currently President and CEO of Five by Five Media, Inc. (2008 to present). He served as Senior Manager and General Counsel to Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (2003 to 2006). At Odyssey, he helped manage marine operations, helped build the research depart, found and hired the researchers that were directly responsible for the location of the Mercedes, HMS Victory and the Gairsoppa.

New Power in the Heart of the Alaskan Beast

Twenty-two year-old crab boat's faithful Cummins diesel engines replaced with state-of-the-art version. Fans of the popular Discovery Channel series “The Deadliest Catch” thrill at the sight of the 113-foot, black-hulled Time Bandit’s bow rearing out of a cresting wave. Onboard men launch and recover 1000-pound crab pots while chilled Arctic seas wash over the working deck. In the wheelhouse, the crab boat’s skippers Andy or Jonathan Hillstrand monitor the deck crew and the boat’s electronic navigation equipment.

Gold Dredging Vessel Delivered

The 50-foot vessel, designed by Anderson Associates, & built by Pacifica has been delivered for gold dredging near Nome, Alaska. Anderson Associates, a Bremerton-based multidisciplinary engineering services firm, recently completed design of a new dredge vessel for Pacifica, a Seattle-based vehicle assembler. The vessel was designed specifically to meet the unique requirements of sub-surface dredging operations in the remote coastal waters of the Bering Sea, and is powered by twin 300HP Yamaha outboards.

Island Pilot’s DSe Hybrid on Discovery Channel

Last winter Reuben Trane, owner of Island Pilot was contacted by the producers of Discovery Channel’s HD Theater who were interested in featuring his DSe Hybrid 12m in an episode about the world’s most expensive rides. The show’s crew met Reuben and his wife, Cheryl, in Key Largo for time on board the DSe to experience her quiet ride and hybrid technology. Episode nine in “The World’s Most Expensive Rides” series aired March 7 at 9:00 p.m. EST featuring the DSe in one of its three segments. The DSe was introduced in the fall of 2008.

International Paint on Discovery Channel

A television program currently airing on the Discovery Channel may offer a positive view on the marine community in general and the work done at International Paint. The program Industrial Junkie is part of a 10 episode series that has been commissioned by the Discovery Channel to offer insight into important major industries. One of the episodes is on paint and is dedicated to the research and manufacture of marine coatings, the preparation and painting of a cruise ship and how coatings can help ship owners save fuel and reduce their carbon footprints.
