Color Line Expands Kiel – Oslo Cargo Capacity

The Norwegian shipping company Color Line operates the additional freight ferry “Color Carrier“ on the route Kiel – Oslo as of January 11th to increase its freight-carrying capability.On the occasion of its inaugural call, the Lord Mayor of Kiel, Dr Ulf Kämpfer, PORT OF KIEL Managing Director Dr Dirk Claus and the Executive Manager of Sartori & Berger, Jens Broder Knudsen, welcomed the captain of the “Color Carrier”, Nils Sivertsen”, to the capital city of Schleswig-Holstein and handed over the traditional inaugural plaques during the onboard reception.

Kiel Port Ends Most Successful Cruise Shipping Season

On Sunday October 28th with the visit of the “AIDAbella” Port of Kiel closed its latest cruise shipping season.This year the port has been visited 166 times by 33 different cruise ships with a combined gross tonnage of more than 11 million. Kiel Reports Successful Cruise Shipping Season

Port of Kiel: Ostuferhafen Access Area Restructured

The Port of Kiel has begun the partial demolition of a former grain storage facility as part of a plan to completely restructure the access area to the Ostuferhafen. The demolition along with the integration of adjacent areas will free up 2.8 hectares in the port access area on which expanded hard standing space can be created for trucks, trailers and cars. Kiel Welcomes Saga Sapphire on Maiden Visit

The first of four visits to Kiel this season by the British shipping company Saga Cruises began early Thursday with the arrival on the Kiel Fiord of the Saga Sapphire with 640 English-speaking passengers on board. The flagship of the Saga fleet was met by a local tug near the Friedrichsort Beacon and within sight of the entrance to the Kiel Canal. Port of Kiel Welcomes Viking Ocean Cruises

Viking Ocean Cruises has made its first visit to the port of Kiel. Escorted by a port tug with the accompaniment of a water fountain display, the company’s “Viking Sun” berthed at the Ostseekai Cruise Terminal after it's morning arrival on July 3, 2018. Port of Kiel Bids Farewell to Knud Sörensen

Knud Sörensen (63), the Marketing Director of the Port of Kiel (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG) and Managing Director of Kombi Port GmbH is being seen off into retirement today at a reception in his honor in Kiel’s traditional Eckmannspeicher. “Knud Sörensen has been active in our concern and well known on the north German port landscape for 32 years. He was instrumental in settling SCA and Iggesund Paperboard in Kiel’s Ostuferhafen” recalled Dr Dirk Claus, Managing Director of the PORT OF KIEL, in a speech honouring the outgoing Marketing Director.

Forest Products Shed Opens in the Ostuferhafen

Another warehouse for Russian forestry products was inaugurated in the Ostuferhafen on Tuesday January 9th. The new Shed 12 was built inside just six months and represents an investment of € 1.5 million ($1.78 mln). The Managing Director of the Port of Kiel  (SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG) Dr Dirk Claus said “We are investing in our trade relations with Russia and want to further cement our co-operative partnership with Jacob Jürgensen Wood GmbH.” The Hamburg-based trading company has signed a long-term rental contract for Shed 12 with the port.

Port of Kiel Posts Record Results

In 2017 Kiel again posted record handling while also passing the seven million ton mark for the first time. Overall, 7,407,376 tons were loaded or unloaded. That represents an increase of 14.3 percent over the previous year and is the best annual result ever achieved by the port. Port of Kiel Tips Record 600,000 Cruise Passengers

This year, more than 2 .1 million sea travellers are expected in Kiel and 600,000 of them – or 17 % more than last year - will be cruise ship passengers. Season’s Biggest Cruise Ship Berths at Ostseekai

The biggest cruise ship of this year’s summer season arrived in the port of Kiel on Saturday April 28th at the end of a journey across the Atlantic. The 139,000 GT and 333 m long “MSC Preziosa” arrived in the Kiel Fiord in the early morning and was welcomed with a water fountain tribute from one of the port’s tugs and escorted to her berth at the Ostseekai Cruise Ship Terminal. During an onboard reception later, City Councillor Gerwin Stöcken and port head Dr Dirk Claus welcomed the ship’s captain to Kiel and presented him with the port’s official maiden visit commemorative plaque.

Port of Kiel Posts Record Cargo and Passenger Handling

Kiel posted record cargo and passenger handling figures in 2016. For the first time some 6.5 million tons were loaded or unloaded last year - an increase of 5.3 % over the previous year and the port’s best-ever result so far. New Train Connection between Kiel and Trieste

Mein Schiff 6 Makes Maiden Call in Kiel

The latest newbuilding to join TUI Cruises, Mein Schiff 6, has berthed in Kiel for the first time. Kiel is the ship’s first passenger port of call in Germany she has visited since she was handed over a few days ago in Turku, Finland. The 99,000 GT, 295 m long cruise ship arrived in the Kiel fiord on Thursday, May 11 to a water fountain welcome and was escorted to her berth by one of the port’s tugs. Onlookers lined the banks and visited the Ostseekai Terminal to catch a glimpse of Mein Schiff 6.

Port of Kiel Opens Waste-water Reception Facility

A modern ship waste-water reception facility went into operation at Kiel’s Ostseekai on June 14. Kieler Woche Draws Cruise Ships

The Kieler Woche sailing regatta – the biggest  maritime folk festival and sail sport event in northern Europe – is a big draw for cruise ships as well as many other vessels. State Minister Buchholz Visits the Port of Kiel

Dr Bernd Buchholz, Minister of Economics, Transport, Labour, Technology and Tourism in the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein, paid an official visit to the port of Kiel on August 1st. Cruise Season Peaks in Kiel

Kiel is expecting a quadruple climax to its cruise shipping season on Saturday, August 12th, when four cruise ships will arrive in the port at the same time, in addition to the Baltic ferries of Color Line, Stena Line and DFDS. In the wake of the “AIDAvita” and “AIDAluna”, the “MSC Fantasia” and the “Zuiderdam“ of Holland America Line will berth on Saturday morning. Kiel's Cruise Shipping Season Draws to a Close

A final call from AIDAvita on October 21 marked the end of the 2017 cruise shipping season in Kiel, Germany. This year saw the number of passengers embarking or disembarking at Kiel’s cruise shipping terminals pass the half million mark for the first time, as the port was visited on 143 separate occasions by 29 different cruise ships with a combined total 10 million GT. “Northern Europe cruises are increasingly in demand. SCA Terminal Inaugurated at Kiel’s Ostuferhafen

The new SCA Terminal was officially inaugurated during a reception on November 11 at the Port of Kiel’s Ostuferhafen.
