MOL Buys Reliance Ethane Carrier Fleet

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) will buy Reliance Industries (RIL) stakes in Singapore-based Reliance Ethane Holding (REHPL) which has a fleet of six very large ethane carriers (VLECs).RIL has 100% holding in six limited liability companies (LLCs) which own the VLECs. "MOL and a strategic minority investor have signed binding definitive agreements for an investment in the six special purpose limited liability companies each owning a VLEC," said a statement from the Mukesh Ambani-led Indian conglomerate holding.Transaction closing is subject to regulatory approvals.

Abu Dhabi Ports, Etisalat Annouce Partnership

Abu Dhabi Ports and Emirates Telecommunication Group Company(Etisalat) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on advancing technological capabilities and business opportunities in support of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.The partnership focuses on building shared electronic projects and networks, exchanging knowledge, simplifying procedures, securing fixed and wireless telecommunications coverage, and managing operational risk.Etisalat will also help Abu Dhabi Ports to adapt to the latest telecommunications technologies, business models, and customer behaviours.

MacGregor to Reveal Digital Advances at SMM

At this year's SMM exhibition, MacGregor, part of Cargotec, plans to unveil a new digital solution it says is set to change the face of breakbulk stowage. Redzic Joins Caterpillar as Digital Enabled Solutions VP

The board of directors of Caterpillar Inc. has appointed Ogi Redzic as a vice president to lead the company’s Digital Enabled Solutions Division (DESD), effective July 30, 2018. He will be based in Caterpillar's Chicago office and report to Group President of Customer & Dealer Support Bob De Lange.DESD is comprised of the company's data analytics group, the enterprise data hub, equipment management tools, Cat Connect technologies and customer experience portals.Redzic takes over for Caterpillar Vice President Julie Lagacy, who has led DESD on an interim basis.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Acquires Syngin Technology

Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the global finished vehicle logistics provider, has signed an agreement to acquire 70% of the membership interest in Syngin Technology  for an initial purchase price of USD 22 million on a cash and debt free basis. "The future of logistics lies in combining digital services, physical assets and a deep understanding of logistics flows. Dry Bulk, Container Markets Strengthened in 2017: Torvald Klaveness

The tanker market remained subdued, while the dry bulk and container markets strengthened during 2017, said Norwegian shipping company Torvald Klaveness. Torvald Klaveness managed to improve its financial results in 2017, but they “were still not at a satisfactory level”, Torvald Klaveness said. Earnings before tax (EBT) for 2017 ended at a loss of USD -2 million. Torvald Klaveness maintained a high solidity and good liquidity in 2017. Stronger markets resulted in improved results for the container segment and the dry bulk segment compared to 2016.

DNV GL Creates Digital Solutions Organization

DNV GL announced it is creating a specialized Digital Solutions organization that will set out to capture the opportunities that lie in data sharing, advanced analytics, automation, and machine learning as well as addressing challenges related to data quality and security. Elisabeth Heggelund Tørstad will leave her post as CEO for DNV GL’s Oil & Gas business to head the new Digital Solutions business, which will consist of 1,000 digital experts. She will be based at DNV GL headquarters in Høvik, Norway as a member of the Executive Committee for the DNV GL Group.

EfficienSea2 Rolls out Maritime Cloud

The Danish-led e-navigation project, EfficienSea2, got one step closer to being launched when a core element of the project – Maritime Cloud – was debated by a group of international maritime organisations and companies. The purpose of the project EfficienSea2 is to develop and implement e-navigation and, thus, up-to-date technology on board ships by introducing and using modern communication, navigation and administrative systems. MARIS Integrates AVCS into PAYS Solution

With the approval from United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO), Maritime Information Systems AS has integrated the ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service (AVCS) into its Pay As You Sail (PAYS) services. The permission of use follows formal type approval for the MARIS PAYS solution earlier this year from DNV GL. Crewtoo, an online network dedicated to seafarers, launched an online maritime jobs board. Founded by KVH Media Group, part of KVH Industries, Inc.
