Maritime UK has confirmed the appointment of Sarah Kenny as Vice Chair. Shoreham Port supporting Women in Maritime
Shoreham Port is part of a high-level Taskforce, established by Maritime UK, to work collaboratively with other businesses in the industry to promote women in the maritime sector. The first meeting took place on 21st February in London and was very well attended. The Taskforce aims to identify practical steps to increase the number of women in the industry and is committed to addressing fairness, equality and inclusion within the sector. The UK Maritime Minister Nusrat Ghani MP joined the first meeting, demonstrating government support for the initiative.
Women in Maritime: New UK Taskforce Established
Setting out to increase fairness, equality and inclusion within the maritime sector, Maritime UK has established a Women in Maritime Taskforce, a move welcomed by the U.K.’s new Maritime Minister, Nusrat Ghani MP. “I am delighted to see Maritime UK taking action to attract more women into our maritime industries, and I welcome this taskforce as an important first step,” said Ghani, who is only the second woman to hold the Department for Transport portfolio for the U.K.’s £40 billion maritime sector.
Maritime UK Chief Welcomes $8.6 Bln Infrastructure Project
Maritime UK Chairman, David Dingle, has welcomed the signature of a major construction contract to deliver the tunnels, bridges and earthworks for phase 1 of the HS2 project. The contracts cover works on both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the high-speed rail 2 (HS2) project, and are worth an estimated £6.6 billion ($8.6 billion). Queen Names P&O Cruises' New Luxury Ship
Carnival Corporation & plc launched P&O Cruises UK’s newest ship, Britannia, in a naming ceremony held today in Southampton, England, to commemorate its entry into service for the P&O Cruises fleet. Christening the ship was Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, officially naming P&O Cruises’ new flagship. Britannia, the first of two new ships joining Carnival Corporation’s fleet in 2015, will be joined later this year by AIDA’s new flagship vessel, AIDAprima, when it begins regular service this fall.
At SMM 2010 ‘Green’ Technologies Center Stage
Last month MR’s Henrik Segercrantz traveled to Hamburg for an exclusive preview of the SMM 2010 exhibition. The SMM international trade fair for shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology will take place in Hamburg, Germany, on 7-10 September. This year much focus will be on environment-friendly technologies and products. The supporting program for SMM 2010 will for the first time this year include the Global Maritime Environmental Congress (gmec), and the Offshore Dialogue, which will also look into maritime technologies for offshore mining and wind farms.
Fincantieri Lay Keel for New P&O Cruises Flagship
The 400-tonne keel section for the cruise ship has been laid in the building dock at the Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. The 3,611 passenger vessel, due to be launched in March 2015, will be the flagship of the P&O Cruises fleet, as well as the largest ever constructed for the British market. The ceremony was attended, among others, by David Dingle, Carnival UK CEO, Carol Marlow, P&O Cruises Managing Director, Enrico Buschi, Fincantieri Chief Operating Officer, and Carlo De Marco, Manager of Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard.
