Ship management company OSM Maritime has launched a portfolio of ‘industry first services’ with the introduction of OSM ON. The new product will be offered to a customer base that not only includes owners, but also insurance companies, financial institutions and brokers. It utilizes the company’s recently opened Maritime Operations Center in Singapore – which digitally connects all vessels under OSM management, and all activities with real-time visibility and transparency – to provide 24/7 response and risk management support services.

Wärtsilä Solutions Increase Safety in Arctic Waters

The technology group Wärtsilä has been contracted by Sovcomflot, Russia’s largest shipping company, to roll out a Wärtsilä Fleet Operations solution for Sovcomflot’s fleet of Arctic shuttle tankers.The aim is to promote sustainable development, and to increase the safety and efficiency of operations in the sensitive Arctic waters. Wärtsilä will also provide a core solution for the company’s fleet operation center. The order was booked in March 2019.The solution has been developed as a result of collaboration between Sovcomflot and Transas, a Wärtsilä company.

Klas Bendrik will join DNV GL September 1 as Chief Digital Transformation Officer to support DNV GL’s digitalization and IT strategy. Martin Wallgren has been appointed the Group’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), a newly created role which recognises the importance of data management as a vital tool in 21st century business. A survey conducted by Shipbuilder shows maritime organisations mainly use very standard virtual reality (VR) functionalities. Geert Schouten, director of Shipbuilder: “At the SMM and the Monaco Yacht Show I spoke to a lot of organisations that use VR. They used it to show for example beautiful yachts and other projects. The users are very positive about this application. Design review and ergonomics benefit from VR already but only via standard applications. New Weight Rules at APM Terminals

With three days of terminal operations completed under the new Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) Verified Gross Mass (VGM) Regulations, export cargo loading has proceeded without incident at the facilities within the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network. In 2014, the International Maritime organization (IMO), the agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating international seaborne trade, approved amendments to the SOLAS Convention which as of July 1st, 2016 requires verification and documentation of export containers before they can be loaded onto vessels.

DNV GL, Tsakos Join Forces on Cyber Safety

The Tsakos Group of Companies has selected DNV GL to assist in preparing a cybersecurity management system for its fleet and onshore facilities – the first such management system developed by a shipping company in cooperation with DNV GL’s Advisory Services. The Greek shipping organization will implement a comprehensive system of safeguards and procedures to protect their assets from cyber risks. DNV GL is the first classification society to put this kind of cybersecurity service into practice.
