GT USA Wilmington Orders Terberg Tractors
GT USA, the US arm of Gulftainer, one of the world’s largest privately owned, independent ports and logistics company, has announced it has placed an initial order of 16 terminal tractors from Terberg Tractors Americas. The fuel-efficient, low-emission equipment will be introduced in a phased manner, with delivery of the first 3 units scheduled for mid-June, with the subsequent deliveries scheduled for August and October.The Terberg Tractors have a superior Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 155,000 lbs and incorporate a hydraulically operated 5th wheel of 75,000 lbs lifting capacity.

Moose Boats won a contract from the City of Rochester, NY, Fire Department for the construction of the first M2-38 Fire Rescue Catamaran to be delivered to the Great Lakes.Twin Cummins 425hp turbo diesel propulsion engines, Twin Disc transmissions and Hamilton water-jets will power the M2-38 aluminum catamaran. New Cruise Ship Terminal in Queensland

Intermarine UK Ramps up Portland Port Operations
Maritime engineering company Intermarine UK is ramping up operations at its new 2,400sqm fabrication and welding facility at Portland Port in Dorset, U.K. after taking delivery of £450,000 of new machinery. Inter Marine Group President Slawomir Kalicki said the Polish-owned company has invested its own cash reserves into the equipment, which include bending machines, welding sets, CNC plasma machines and laser cutters. In addition, Kalicki said since beginning operations in January the company has created 20 jobs, including 15 laborers and five office-based positions.
A Familiar Name Tackles the Waterfront’s Changing Challenges
Growth in the size of containerships is driving investment across the maritime, port infrastructure and supporting industry spectrum. That’s because, until 2014, Maersk Line’s Triple EEE was the largest containership in the world at 18,340 TEU, only to be surpassed two years later by CSCL Globe (19,100 TEU), with a 21,100 TEU ship coming soon and a 24,000 TEU ship on the drawing board. The logistics chain efficiency of running these mammoth ships is lost without matching port and terminal investment to move goods to and through shore side facilities.

New ATB Builds for Island Tug & Barge
Over the years Vancouver, BC based Island Tug and Barge (ITB) has refurbished and repowered older vessels and completed new vessels. The company is currently working on its most ambitious and innovative project to date. In its Annacis Island Shipyard, located undercover in a pair of huge leased warehouses on the Fraser River, ITB is building two tugs that will be paired with two of its existing barges. The two boats are built with pins for use in an articulated tug and barge application.
Incat Crowther Designed Ferry for Seychelles

Indian Navy Dredger Completes Successful First Year
In mid-April of 2016, the Indian Navy’s grab hopper dredger, Dredger-1 was preparing to depart its birth shipyard following a comprehensive one-year warrantee review. Tebma Shipyards Ltd., Senior Vice President M. Balasubramaniam explained that the 44.15 by 12.2-meter vessel was designed to meet precise deepening requirements around docks and port installations and in riverine or other places where deepening of specific areas is required. The vessel has a 320-HP Cummins-855-powered forward-mounted crane supplied by Titagarth Wagons.
Incat Crowther Delivers SEACOR Marine’s 2nd FSV
Incat Crowther announced the delivery of Najla McCall, the second vessel in SEACOR Marine’s Express Plus class of Fast Support Vessels (FSV). Sistership to the Alya McCall launched in November last year, Najla McCall has seating capacity for 100 personnel and achieved an operational speed in excess of 38 knots during recent trials. This performance is remarkable for a large vessel of this type and is enabled by a quintet of Cummins QSK 60, EPA Tier 3 compliant diesel engines, each producing 2,680 bhp, the designer said.
First US-flagged Wind Farm Vessel Delivered
Blount Boats has delivered the Atlantic Pioneer, America’s first U.S.-flagged Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) for Atlantic Wind Transfers that will begin service for Deep Water Wind Block Island at the end of May. The 21-meter aluminum vessel was designed by South Boats IOW (Isle of Wight), who has designed and built approximately 81 crew transfer vessels for the European Offshore Wind Sector servicing wind farms throughout Europe. In 2011 Blount Boats signed an exclusive licensing agreement with South Boats covering the U.S. offshore wind industry.
Seaspan Venture: Like for Like
“We don’t usually remove the heads at mid-life on the Cummins engines,” Randy Beckler, Shore Engineer for Seaspan Marine, explained in reference to the 2003 launched Seaspan Venture’s third like-for-like repower. The repower was completed in the first week of February 2016. The Seaspan Venture, like her sister the Seaspan Tempest, had a pair of Cummins KTA38 M0 engines when new builds. These engines were changed out at over 40,000 hours. In 2016, the second set of engines had around 42,000 hours.
Cummins VP Awarded MBE by Queen Elizabeth
John Iain Barrowman, Vice President - High-Horsepower Operations and a senior director of Cummins Ltd., has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year 2016 Honors List in recognition of his contribution to British industry. Barrowman was appointed as an MBE by Queen Elizabeth following a recommendation submitted by Prime Minister David Cameron. The MBE investiture ceremony will take place at Buckingham Palace at a date to be advised. Barrowman MBE has overseen the development of Cummins U.K.
GNS Names Country Manager for Norway
Maritime navigation services group Global Navigation Solutions (GNS) announced the appointment of Jon Folkedal as its new country manager for Norway with immediate effect, marking the company’s first specific country appointment in Scandinavia. Folkedal joins GNS from Cummins Norway AS, where he acted as commercial marine sales manager. He brings to his new position more than 13 years’ experience in the shipping industry, including nine years with rope specialist Timm Marine. He has also held positions with GIS and map supplier Ugland IT Group/Nordeca, as well as IBM.

When she came into the Fred Wahl shipyard in Reedsport, Oregon, the Miss Berdie was a fine looking boat with a bright red hull. Incat Crowther has entered into a contract to design a 33m Catamaran Dive Vessel for Down Under Cruise & Dive of Cairns, Australia. Construction of the vessel is well underway at Marine Engineering Consultants on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Incat Crowther were approached by Down Under Cruise & Dive to create a design that offered the ultimate passenger experience, with the class and style of a motor yacht, yet retained the rugged and efficient properties of an aluminium commercial vessel.

When it comes to innovation in new boats, few hold a better record than the Norwegians. As pioneers in the salmon farming industry they have several decades of innovation in maintaining the farms and in transporting fish from farm to market as well as developing work vessels to support the farms. Currently drawing attention in Norway’s fjords is the recently delivered Frøy Server. The 25 by 10.6-meter vessel has a molded depth of 4.1 meters. StingRay: Adapting to the Market
There is no question that these are challenging times for offshore oil in the Gulf of Mexico. However, while some vessel operators are tying up boats, Bordelon Marine is continuing with its aggressive build program. Designed for flexibility, the firm’s Stingray 260 Class DP 2 platform supply vessels are proving their design concept. Its most recently vessels are the M/V Shelia Bordelon, and M/V Brandon Bordelon, number two and three in the series, due for launch later this year.
