Costa Diadema Presented in Marghera
Costa Diadema the fifteenth ship and new flagship of Costa Cruises fleet, was presented today by Costa Cruises and Fincantieri. Costa Cruises has invested a total of around 550 million euro in the construction of the Costa Diadema at Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera. The project has involved approximately 1,000 shipyard workers plus another 2,500 subcontractors and about 400 contracted suppliers, most of which are Italian firms, engaged for the fitting-out of the interiors of the cruise ship.

Costa Concordia to be Piggy-backed Away
Dockwise, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis) has been awarded the contract to load and transport the lifted 'Costa Concordia' wreck from Isola del Giglio onboard the 'Dockwise Vanguard'. The contract was awarded by Costa Crociere S.p.A. In a unique operation the Costa Concordia can be loaded as a whole onto the Dockwise Vanguard and safely transported to a location where she can be scrapped. The client has yet to make a decision in agreement with the local authorities on the final destination. Alternatives under review include scrapping the vessel in Italy.
Costa Concordia Parbuckling to Get Green Light Soon
The salvage operation (known as the 'parbuckling project') to upright the wreck of the partially sunken 'Costa Concordia' has been given provisional approval by the Italian government's Civil Protection Department and is expected ot take place at a convenient date in September. The meeting convened in Rome was at the headquarters of the Civil Protection Department and was attended by the Emergency Commissioner Franco Gabrielli, as well as representatives from the Advisory Committee, the Observatory, the Micoperi-Titan Consortium and the cruise line Costa Crociere.
Five Convicted for Costa Concordia Shipwreck
Five employees of an Italian cruise company for the Costa Concordia shipwreck that killed 32 crew and passengers were convicted in an Italian court on Saturday after it accepted their plea bargains. The longest sentence went to the crisis coordinator for Costa Crociere SpA, the cruise company, who was sentenced to two years and 10 months. Concordia's hotel director was sentenced to two years and six months while two bridge officers and a helmsman got sentences ranging from one year and eight months to one year and 11 months.

Five board members of owners, Costa Crociere, have been placed under investigation in connection with the January 2012 cruise ship accident. The executives are reportedly being probed for possible collusion in the crimes of dereliction of duty and manslaughter that the ship's Captain, Francesco Schettino, and other crew members are being accused of. Top executives from parent company Carnival also sit on Costa Crociere's board, reports Ansa.it.
