Two U.S. shipping conferences have joined forces to create the first ever North American Shipping Week, to be held October 12-16 in Stamford, Conn., organizers announced Thursday.SHIPPINGInsight will open the week on October 12, one day ahead of its orginal opening date, followed back-to-back by CMA Shipping starting on the afternoon of October 14. CMA Shipping, originally scheduled to be held from March 31 through April 2, had been rescheduled to take place June 29-July 1 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sea States: Documentary on the Shipping Industry to debut in Spring 2019
Sea States, a new documentary film on the importance of the shipping industry is currently under production by Third Wave Films. Ørbeck-Nilssen Sets Out Transformation of IACS at CMA
Speaking at Shipping 2018, the Connecticut Maritime Association’s (CMA) annual conference, Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen, CEO of DNV GL – Maritime and IACS Chairman, looked at some of the initiatives taken at the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) that were changing the organization. “It is my duty and honor to encourage the world’s biggest classification societies to pull together to adapt to this rapid pace of change and create a strong foundation for IACS as the leading maritime technical association,” Ørbeck-Nilssen said.

Marshall Islands Registry is "Number Two"
The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) fleet now stands at 223,262,177 deadweight tons (DWT), making it the second largest registry in the world in terms of DWT. International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI) have provided administrative and technical support to the RMI Registry since 1990. Republic of the Marshall Islands Maintains Qualitative Edge
The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) received preliminary information regarding the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG’s) Qualship 21 list during Intertanko’s North American Panel meeting. The meeting, which took place on day one of the Connecticut Maritime Association’s (CMA’s) Shipping 2016 conference, was the largest attended North American Panel meeting to date. DNV GL - Maritime CEO Addresses Cybersecurity at CMA 2015
“Ships and offshore structures are becoming more and more interconnected,” said Tor Svensen, CEO DNV GL - Maritime, when taking the stage at this year’s CMA (Connecticut Maritime Association) event in Stamford, CT. Captain to Recount Refugee Rescue at CMA
Captain Joshua Bhatt is a featured speaker at the Connecticut Maritime Association’s Shipping 2015 Conference in Stamford at the Hilton Stamford Hotel in the Harbor Point Room (Lobby Level). Profile: Coast Guard Administrative Law Judge Brudzinski
Just recently, we had an opportunity to discuss the Coast Guard’s Administrative Law Judge Program with its Chief Judge, Walter J. Brudzinski. Judge Brudzinski has been a Coast Guard Administrative Law Judge since 2003 and was appointed Chief Judge in June 2013. We caught up with him this summer in Washington and asked him to describe what an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) is, what the Coast Guard’s ALJ Program does, how he got to be where he is, and his vision for leading this Program. There are thirty federal agencies with Administrative Law Judges, including the Coast Guard.
Managing Shipping & Risk with New Variables
Outside investors and other variables change the way that shipping firms manage risk. Investable assets include ships, freight and even the hedging of bunkers.
