Airbus Group Sheds its Commercial Satellite Communication Business

[Press Release] Airbus Group SE (AIR) signed with French private equity firm, Apax Partners, a share purchase agreement (SPA) for the sale of 100% of the share capital of the legal entities comprising the commercial satellite communication business. The final closing of the transaction – subject to regulatory approvals – is expected to take place in the next months. Airbus Defence and Space announced in September of 2014 that a detailed and comprehensive portfolio assessment had defined Military Aircraft, Space, Missiles and related Systems and Services as its future core businesses.

ST Engineering Y-O-Y Profits Slip

Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd  reported today its full year financial results ended 31 December 2014 (FY2014) with a Group revenue of $6.54b compared to $6.63b as reported for FY2013. Profit before tax (PBT) of $650.7m was $79m or 11% lower year-on-year compared to $729.7m, and Net Profit of $532.0m was $48.8m or 8% lower year-on-year compared to $580.8m. At the business sector level, revenue for the Aerospace sector was comparable at $2.06b, and PBT was down 11% to $283m from $319.4m reported for FY2013.

MLC 2006: Will it Drive Crew On Board Comms?

Astrium Services, a global communications provider of commercial satellite networks in the maritime sector, recently took a survey of seafarer’s usage of crew communication solutions in the commercial shipping sector. The survey involved two Philippine crewing agents handling approximately 47,000 seafarers annually for more than 1,000 vessels in the cargo and passenger sectors. With the objective of establishing a clear picture of mariner communications requirements and other metrics, the survey was illuminating in more ways than one.

Beam Announces Inmarsat-Based Piracy Solution

Beam Communications Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of World Reach Limited (ASX: WRR), announces a new satellite piracy solution for secure communication on board a vessel. The new system operates with the Inmarsat satellite network. Beam’s new Oceana 800 Covert Piracy Solution provides a dedicated system for a safe room or citadel on board a vessel. Globe Wireless, Jotron Sign VSAT Distribution Deal

According to the agreement, the specialist firm in communication solutions, GRC, will promote and distribute Thuraya’s entire portfolio of services to government and defense institutions in Europe.
