Hutton's Expands Global Network to Middle East

Expanding international ship supplier Hutton’s Group has established an important regional supply hub in Dubai to service its clients in the Middle East. This key location adds to Hutton’s growing global network which provides extensive coverage in the UK, Europe and West Africa. Women's Conference Aims to Establish Caribbean Association

Jamaica is to host the Caribbean’s first ever Women in Maritime Association Conference as a first step towards establishing an IMO Women in Maritime Association for the region. Taking place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from April 13-17, the Conference aims to support regional efforts to deepen the integration of women in the maritime sector through the establishment of a Women in Maritime Association (WiMA) for the Caribbean. WiMA is the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) gender programme which this year marks its 27th year.

Kalmar SmartStack goes live

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has implemented the Kalmar SmartStack solution at Durban Container Terminal (DCT) in South Africa for real-time container inventory reporting and management. This is the first terminal to implement Kalmar SmartStack using the narrowband communication network involving re-engineering from the standard WiFi deployment. Private Maritime Security expert Sea Marshals has gained ISO9001:2008 approval in a month which saw the company protect a record number of vessels transiting the Gulf of Aden – up 22% on the previous month. High Availability on the High Seas

Safety-critical tasks place exacting demands on the performance, capability and availability of shipboard controls. Thus, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) requires network redundancy. If a wire breaks, triggering one network/server to fail, a redundant network becomes an additional communication path to provide uninterrupted operation. Historically, network redundancy has required extensive wiring and additional control components, which increases shipbuilding and maintenance costs.

GlobeComm Implementing GSM/VSAT to Global Fleets

Globecomm Maritime Extends Ericsson Mobile Connectivity to Worldwide Fleet. Globecomm Systems Inc., a global provider of communications solutions and services, announced that it has been selected by Ericsson as a subcontractor of the maritime GSM/VSAT managed operation for an Ericsson mobile communication network. The network will be implemented on up to 400 container vessels worldwide over the next two years, providing end-to-end 24/7 automated monitoring and real-time information control.
