Wan Hai Lines Enhances Japan Services
Taiwanese shipping company Wan Hai Lines announced the enhancement of its Japan service coverage.With effect from early April 2019, the company shall upgrade its existing New Super 1 service and also extend one of its existing Japan Kanto service to cover Malaysia, the provider of full-containerized shipping service said in a press note.Upgrade existing New Super 1 service(NS1) to Panamax vessel size: The service will maintain 4 vessel deployment with WHL deploying 2 x 4250Teu vessels, while IAL and OOCL deploys 1 vessel each.

Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE) has announced that ONE Grus, with a carrying capacity of 14,000 TEU, has been successfully delivered at Kure Shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation. NYK ARTEMIS, part of Ocean Network Express’s (ONE) PS3 service made its maiden call at APM Terminals’ Gateway Terminals of India (GTI) offers connectivity to the Far-east Asian ports along with United States West Coast ports of Oakland and Los Angeles. This is the first call by the newly established ONE line to Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva terminal. Singapore-based Ocean Network Express (ONE) has introduced its new EC5 route calling at the Port of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Headquartered in Singapore, Ocean Network Express was established on July 7, 2017 through the integration of 'K' Line, MOL and NYK. It’s new EC5 service was launched on April 23rd at the South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) at the Port of Colombo. South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT), is owned by a consortium of local and global companies, including APM Terminals, which holds a 33% share. CMIT Welcomes Vietnam PM
Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) on July 21st, becoming the first container terminal in the Cai Mep area, part of Saigon Port, to receive the Vietnamese Head of State. APM Terminals to Promote Safety in Vietnam
APM Terminals together with AIP Foundation, a road safety nonprofit, is rolling out a new training program in Vietnam to help make the port community of Cai Mep in southern Vietnam safe. More than 45 truck drivers and other CMIT employees, along with executives from the APM Terminals’ operated Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT), joined 500 students, teachers, and parents at Tran Quoc Toan Primary School, which neighbors the port, to address road safety issues in their community. The truck drivers work for CMIT, a subsidiary of the Netherlands-based port operator APM Terminals.

OCEAN ALLIANCE Sets Out Network
Members of the OCEAN ALLIANCE, COSCO Container Lines, CMA CGM, Evergreen Line and Orient Overseas Container Line, signed a document entitled the Day One Product, which sets out the proposed OCEAN ALLIANCE’s network, including port rotation for each service loop. The Day One network intends to deploy around 350 container vessels with an estimated total carrying capacity of 3.5 million TEUs to provide one of the most comprehensive service coverage in the market on the following trade lanes. Hanjin Sells Vietnamese Terminal
South Korea's largest shipping line Hanjin Shipping has sold its entire 21.3% stake in Tan Cang Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) in Vietnam to its affiliate in order to secure liquidity. The financially-troubled shipping line will raise about $33m from the sale. The move came after the government and creditors, led by state-run Korea Development Bank, pushed Cho Yang-ho, the chairman of Hanjin Group, to pour more cash to the ailing shipping arm of the company. TCIT is a joint venture company of Saigon Newport Corporation with Hanjin, Mitsui OSK Lines and Wan Hai as partners.
Shortages of Bulk Cargo in Vietnamese Ports
Claims for shortage of bulk cargoes have become common in some Vietnamese ports and can lead to the arrest of the vessel by the receivers, says Gard Alert. Two of the ports frequently involved are Phu My (Cai Mep) in the south and Cai Lan in the north. Some vessels entered with Gard have recently been confronted with shortage claims upon discharge in Vietnam. One vessel was arrested, as the cargo insurers did not accept security in any form and insisted on a cash settlement in order to release the vessel. Throughput at Cai Mep International Terminal, the APM Terminals facility in Vietnam’s Ba Ria‐Vung Tau province, southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, expanded by 130 percent in the first quarter as new service calls added in 2015 began to impact volumes. The container volume has surged by 130% to 277,303 TEUs for the first three months of 2016, as compared with the same period a year ago. Struggle Continues at Vietnam Port
The deep-river port complex in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is still struggling to reach its designed capacity, says local media reports. The seven deep-water seaports have been built by the Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port Group in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau in the past few years at a total cost of VND40 trillion (nearly US$1.8 billion). Ocean Three Alliance optimize Asia-Europe routes
CMA CGM and Ocean Three partners announced optimization on Asia-Europe routes, which aims to reduce capacity and to improve the rates efficiency. The Ocean Three Alliance have decided to harmonize FAL2 and FAL3 in order to adapt to the current market situation between Asia and Europe. They will offer a new optimized rotation. Instead of two services FAL2 and FAL3 will be launched service FAL23, adding the ports of call in Cai Mep Deep Sea Terminal (Vietnam), Felixstowe (UK) and Chiwan (China). The route will employ 12 vessels with capacity in range 12,000-15,000 TEU.

Two Chinese shipping giants are likely to sign agreements with Cambodia's Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (SAP), paving the way for exporters to move cargo directly from Cambodia to China, Xinhua reported. Zim Offers Asia-US east coast service via Suez
Israeli liner carrier Zim Integrated Shipping Services is launching a new service between Asia and the U.S. East Coast via the Suez Canal at the end of May. The 10-ship loop will call in South China, Vietnam, Colombo, New York, Savannah and Norfolk, and is designed to provide fast transit from Asia to New York. The new service, which ZIM has dubbed the Seven Star Express (Z7S), will commence May 29 with a rotation of Da Chan Bay, Yantian, Cai Mep, Singapore, Colombo, New York, Savannah, Norfolk, Singapore, and Da Chan Bay.
