Shipbuilders Council Announces Shipyard Safety Awards
The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA), the national association representing the U.S. shipyard industry, today announced the 2020 annual shipyard safety awards. SCA honors shipbuilding and repair organizations with the “Excellence in Safety” Award and “Improvement in Safety” Award each year for enhancement of operations and promotion of safety and accident prevention.Over the past several years, the industry has seen the total recordable incident rate steadily decline, with the most significant decline seen in 2019.
Socha Joins Conrad Shipyard’s Senior Management Team

Interlake Charters Barge for Great Lakes Service
Ohio-based shipping firm the Interlake Steamship Company announced it will time charter a 418-foot, 14,400-short-ton capacity dry cargo barge from the U.S. East Coast to operate on the Great Lakes starting this spring.The single-hold covered hopper barge Montville, owned and operated by Connecticut-based towing services provider Moran Towing Corp, will be under charter through 2019 with options to extend.The time charter deal marks a first for Great Lakes carrier Interlake, whose owned fleet includes nine self-unloading vessels ranging in carrying capacity from 24,000 to 68,000 gross tons.

Bollinger Shipyards President and CEO Ben Bordelon announced the promotions of two key leaders. Jerome Eymard has been promoted to the position of Director of Human Resources, and Rachael Battaglia to the position of General Counsel. Jerome Eymard has a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources and a Master of Business Administration from Nicholls State University, and received his Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification in 2012. USCG Awards Polar Icebreaker Contracts
The U.S. Coast Guard awarded five firm fixed-price contracts for heavy polar icebreaker design studies and analysis Wednesday. The contracts were awarded to the following recipients: Bollinger Shipyards, LLC, Lockport, Louisiana; Fincantieri Marine Group, LLC, Washington, District of Columbia; General Dynamics/National Steel and Shipbuilding Company, San Diego, California; Huntington Ingalls, Inc., Pascagoula, Mississippi; and VT Halter Marine, Inc., Pascagoula, Mississippi. The combined total value of the awards is approximately $20 million.

Capesize Index Weakens
Upward moves in the Capesize index are now starting to stall, according to Freight Investor Services (FIS). "Last week we witnessed some short covering in the market which was supported by the technical picture, and this appears to be now drawing to a close," says FIS. The Capesize Index has since started to stall with prices now moving lower, the index seems to be finding resistance at the upper Bollinger band, at a time that the momentum indicators are starting to weaken, suggesting the technical picture could soon be about to change to the downside.

Bollinger Wins Contract for Phase II FRC Builds
Louisiana shipbuilder Bollinger Shipyards announced it has secured a contract to build Phase II of the Sentinel Class Fast Response Cutters (FRC) for the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The FRC, the newest generation of USCG patrol cutters, is a replacement for the Coast Guard Island Class cutters that Bollinger built over three decades ago. SCA Presents Safety Award to Bollinger

Bollinger Delivers 17th FRC to the USCG
Bollinger Shipyards has delivered the USCGC Donald Horsley, the 17th Fast Response Cutter (FRC) to the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The Coast Guard took delivery on March 5, 2016 in Key West, Fla., and is scheduled to commission the vessel in Puerto Rico during May, 2016. The 154-foot patrol craft USCGC Donald Horsley is the 17th vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program. To build the FRC, Bollinger used a proven, in-service parent craft design based on the Damen Stan Patrol Boat 4708.

Bollinger Achieves Continued ISO 9001 Certification
Bollinger Shipyards, LLC announced that it has achieved continued registration to ISO 9001 for another three years without interruption since 1996. The 154-foot patrol craft Heriberto Hernandez is the 14th vessel in the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class FRC program. To build the FRC, Bollinger used a proven, in-service parent craft design based on the Damen Stan Patrol Boat 4708. It has a flank speed of 28 knots, state of the art command, control, communications and computer technology, and a stern launch system for the vessel’s 26 foot cutter boat.

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Bollinger Shipyards, LLC announced its vice president for quality management system, Dennis Fanguy, will receive the 2015 William M. Bollinger Shipyards has promoted Brent Blackburn as Director of Engineering. Blackburn has more than 16 years of experience in the U.S. shipbuilding and maritime industry. He joined Bollinger in 2004 working in various engineering, estimating, and proposal roles mainly focusing on the company’s government programs.
