Adam Singer, Chair, UKHO

New UK Hydrographic Office Chair Appointed

Adam Singer has been appointed to the role of Chair of the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) for three years. He takes over the role from Sandra Rogers who has served on the Hydrographic Office Board for 13 years. Adam is currently Chairman of the British Screen Advisory Council, Digital Radio UK, and the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society. He is also on the Board of Trustees for The Sixteen, one of the U.K.’s leading choral groups. Adam has worked in broadcasting and telecoms in the U.K., U.S., France and Japan.

Cluver, Martinez Join Port of Oakland Commission

Local labor leader Andreas Cluver and long-time community leader Arabella Martinez have been appointed to the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners. They join the Board February 11. Nominated by Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, the City Council appointed Cluver, Secretary-Treasurer of the Alameda County Building and Construction Trades Council, and Martinez, Vice-Chair of the Latino Community Foundation Board of Trustees at its meeting February 2. Port Commissioners Cluver and Martinez were sworn into office by Schaaf.

Berger Joins Port of New Orleans Board

Gov. John Bel Edwards appointed Darryl D. Berger to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans. Berger, who was sworn in during today’s monthly Board meeting, will serve a five-year term, succeeding Scott Cooper, one of four Orleans Parish representatives on the seven-member regional Board. Berger is President of The Berger Company Inc., which he founded in 1972 and is based in New Orleans. An investor, developer and financier of real estate, Berger is particularly active as a leading developer in downtown New Orleans…

Port of Cleveland Taps Chris Ronayne to Lead Board

The Board of Trustees for the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority today unanimously elected Chris Ronayne as new board chair. As President and CEO of University Circle, Inc., which oversees the growth and direction of one of Ohio’s fastest growing employment district, Ronayne has led planning, development, education, marketing, police, and other shared services for the district over a decade of sustained growth. “I'm truly looking forward to leveraging the economic power of the Port of Cleveland to create more jobs for Cleveland and Northeast Ohio,” said Ronayne.

Fischbacher Named Director of SSI

Industry veteran and former Rio Tinto SSI trustee representative Alastair Fischbacher to take the helm at the Sustainable Shipping Initiative. The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI), a coalition of companies from across the global shipping industry that is focused on driving commercial growth through sustainable practices, has announced the appointment of Alastair Fischbacher as its new director. Until his retirement from Rio Tinto in May 2014, Fischbacher represented the company on the SSI’s Board of Trustees.

Samel Joins Hatch Mott MacDonald

Leslie Samel, PE, BCEE, has joined the multidisciplinary engineering firm Hatch Mott MacDonald, and will serve as a Senior Project Manager and office leader at HMM’s office in Jacksonville, Florida. Leslie is a professional engineer in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, with more than 14 years of experience in environmental, water and wastewater planning, design and construction services. Leslie earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida.

HALO Board Joined by Greg Hersch

HALO Maritime Defense Systems (HMDS), announces the addition of Greg Hersch to its Board of Directors. Mr. Hersch replaces John Shephard who will remain involved with the company as a member of the Board of Advisors. Greg is a Senior Vice President in Wealth Management at UBS Financial Services in New York City. Caterpillar CEO Joins ExxonMobil Board

Exxon Mobil Corporation announced today that its shareholders have elected Doug Oberhelman to its board of directors. Oberhelman is chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of Caterpillar Inc. With the election of Oberhelman, the ExxonMobil board stands at 12 directors, 11 of whom are non-employee directors. Oberhelman was named CEO and chairman of Caterpillar’s board in 2010. Prior to that, he served as group president of various divisions within Caterpillar from 2002 to 2010, and was elected a Caterpillar vice president and chief financial officer in 1995.

ABS’ Wiernicki Addresses SUNY Maritime Grads

ABS Chairman, President and CEO Christopher J. Christopher J. Sustainable Shipping Initiative Names Holmer GM

The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI), a coalition of companies from across the global shipping industry, announced the appointment of Tom Holmer as its new general manager. Holmer comes from a background of social sustainability, working for the benefit of seafarers and their families with the International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) and the ITF Seafarers’ Trust, as well as conducting consultancy work on sustainability issues in the transport sector with Public World.

Cal Maritime Presidential Search Committee to Hold First Meeting

The California State University Board of Trustees will begin the search next month for a new president of the California Maritime Academy to succeed  President William B. Eisenhardt, who is retiring after serving as president of the university since 2001. The first meeting of the search committee will be held in an open forum from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 7 at the Rizza Auditorium on the Cal Maritime campus, followed by a closed meeting of the committee at 1 p.m. This is the only meeting of the committee that is an open meeting.

Keith Michel Installed as President of Webb Institute

Retired Chairman of the Board of the Herbert Engineering Group of Companies and Webb Institute alumnus, R. Keith Michel (Webb ’73) was inaugurated as the 15th president of Webb Institutein a private ceremony set on campus. Mr. Michel's inuauguration followed the retirement of RADM Robert C. Olsen, Jr. USCG (Ret.), who filled the role for eight years. “Keith is highly regarded throughout the marine industry and will be an asset to Webb Institute,” said outgoing President Olsen. Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. George Campbell Jr., conducted the presidential inauguration.

Keppel Corporation Appoints New Board Director

Keppel Corporation Limited (Keppel) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Tan Puay Chiang (陈培璋) as Independent Director on the Board with effect from June 20, 2012. Mr Tan, 65, is a veteran in the oil, gas and petrochemicals sector. During his 38-year career with Mobil Oil and later ExxonMobil, he held executive management roles in Australia, Singapore and the United States. These included the positions of Vice-President, Mobil Research & Technology Corp, USA and Chairman & Managing Director of Mobil Oil Australia. Mr Tan retired as Chairman, ExxonMobil (China) Investment Co in 2008.

Polemis Elected to Stevens Board of Trustees

Spyros M. Polemis, an international business leader who has spent more than 45 years in the shipping industry, has been elected to serve on the Stevens Institute of Technology Board of Trustees. Mr. Polemis was named to the board during its spring meeting, May 20-21, 2009. Polemis is a Class of 1961 graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, where he served as president of Pi Lambda Phi and belonged to the Interfraternity Council and the Yacht Club. Polemis' family has roots in shipping that date back several centuries. He is chairman and managing director of Seacrest Shipping Co.

Coast Guard Foundation Announces 2014 Board

The Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced its 2014 board of trustees. NOL Group Board of Directors Appointments

Neptune Orient Lines Limited (NOL) announced the appointment of international business figure Robert J. Herbold to the company’s Board of Directors, effective 1 February 2010. Witte Joins Noble Maritime Collection Board

Klevan President & CEO of SeaKeepers Society

Following a unanimous board decision, the International SeaKeepers Society welcomed Dean C. Klevan as its new President and CEO. Klevan joins SeaKeepers following a distinguished career in the financial services industry. Most recently, he was the President of the Coral Gables Trust Company, an institution he helped to found. Klevan also served in senior positions with Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, and Citicorp in the United States and abroad. He brings a business perspective to the challenges faced by a not-for-profit in today’s weakened economic environment.

Willingham Joins Tidewater’s Management Team

Tidewater Inc. (NYSE: TDW) announced that Deborah Willingham has joined Tidewater as Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Willingham will report to Chairman, President and CEO Dean Taylor, and will be responsible for worldwide Human Resources for the company.
