Automating Freight Forwarding Must Be Done Strategically, Says iContainers

Automation is one of the hottest topics in freight forwarding, especially among the new digital freight forwarders, all wanting to transform this immense and complex world of ocean freight with technology.But these claims of ‘disrupting’ the industry have raised questions, especially in relation to their impact. Studies published by Barclays and more recently, Transport Intelligence, noted the lack of an impact from this ‘disruption’ - as claimed by many of these new digital freight forwarders.The opportunities are there.

Port of Oakland, Japan Strengthen Ties

Port of Oakland Executive Director, Chris Lytle, called for strengthened business ties with Japan. Addressing visitors from the Japanese Port of Hakata, Lytle listed opportunities for growth at sea and in the air.“It’s extremely critical for us to have good, strong free trade partners such as Japan,” Lytle told a visiting delegation from the city of Fukuoka. “Japan is a very large and very important part of our business.”Lytle's  remarks came on the 30th anniversary of a sister port relationship between Oakland and Hakata.

Amsterdam Port Revenue Grows in 2017

Havenbedrijf Amsterdam N.V. realised revenue of EUR 150.1 million, compared to EUR 146.3 million in 2016. The operating result increased from EUR 73.3 million in 2016 to EUR 74.3 million in 2017. OOCL Increases Scope of GHG Reporting Verification

Hong Kong-based container shipping company OOCL said it has made progress in its pursuit of higher standards and transparency in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting. According to classification society Lloyd’s Register, OOCL has not only met the GHG Scopes 1 and 2 inventory verification requirements that it announced last year, but also for Scope 3 which focuses on indirect emissions associated to air travel by employees of its Hong Kong office and as defined in the "Greenhouse Gas Protocol – A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard".

Ambitious Countries Must Push for Shipping in Climate Deal

Countries calling for an ambitious agreement at the Paris climate summit must insist that language on aviation and shipping emissions be reinserted or the prospects of keeping global warming below 2°C, let alone 1.5°C, will be fatally undermined, green groups have warned. The latest draft deal, issued days before talks are due to end, dropped any mention of the two international transport sectors, which fall outside national reduction targets and therefore require an explicit reference in the agreement.
