Stockholm Expects 290 Cruise Liners in 2020

Ports of Stockholm said that 2020 cruise season is expected to be another record year in terms of passenger numbers and almost 290 cruise calls, with as many as 13 maiden visits.The  Baltic Sea cruise port said that the list of the 2020 season’s cruise ship calls has been published and presents no fewer than 13 vessels calling at Ports of Stockholm for the first time.The international cruise ship season begins on 17th April at the Port of Nynäshamn with the arrival of the vessel Magellan, and on 26th April in Stockholm with the arrival of the Viking Star.

LNG Cruise Ship Takes Shape in Germany

On August 15, 2019, the first steel cut took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg for the sister ship of AIDAnova, a world’s first cruise ship that is fully powered with liquefied natural gas (LNG). With the official start of construction for the second ship of this innovative AIDA ship generation to be put into service in spring 2021, the company is continuing its course and making a further contribution to reduced emissions in cruising. As early as 2023, the third LNG cruise ship of AIDA Cruises, “Made in Germany,” will set sail.

AIDA Cruises to Trial Fuel Cells

The super luxury passenger vessel MV Mein Schif 3 of TUI Cruises with 2,430 passengers and 995 crew on board made her maiden call at the Port of Colombo on 26th November 2018. For the first time in the history of the cruise company AIDA Cruises, a whole family will christen the newest ship AIDAnova. AIDAnova: Exclusive Cruises Before Maiden Voyage

Travelers now have the chance to experience AIDAnova before the maiden voyage. AIDA Cruises will take ownership of the first new-build of a new generation of ships from the Meyer shipyard on November 15, 2018. Guests will be able to experience the new flagship on a series of pre-premiere cruises before AIDAnova’s maiden voyage when she will leave Hamburg on December 2, 2018, heading for the Canary Islands. These short cruises can be booked as of 10:00 a.m. on February 1, 2018.

P&O Cruises Orders Second Ship at Meyer Werft

Carnival Corporation announced it has signed a shipbuilding contract for a second cruise ship for its P&O Cruises brand with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft GmbH that is scheduled to be delivered in 2022. Similar to a fellow P&O Cruises sister ship due for delivery in 2020, this second new vessel will be the largest cruise ship to be built specifically for the British market. It will be 180,000 gross tons and will accommodate approximately 5,200 guests (lower berths). Both new ships will be registered in the U.K.
