The Spratly Islands are a group of islets, cays, atolls, and coral reefs located in the southern portion of the South China Sea. Taiping Island (also called Itu Aba Island) is the largest of these islets and the only one with fresh water springs.

Shortsea is sailing under greater power

Potentially good news for US water-borne commerce. Shortsea shipping is again showing signs of renewed vitality. The first barges on the Stockton to Oakland “Marine Highway” have made their trip, loaded with animal feed. But the project is still the equivalent of a see-saw…
