USCG to Webcast CDC Strategy “Listening Sessions”

When I wrote about the announcement of stakeholder meetings on the Coast Guard’s working draft of the Certain Dangerous Cargos (CDC) Security National Strategy (for the maritime transportation system), I seconded the notion that the USCG should webcast the sessions.

When I wrote about the announcement of stakeholder meetings on the Coast Guard’s working draft of the Certain Dangerous Cargos (CDC) Security National Strategy (for the maritime transportation system), I seconded the notion that the USCG should webcast the sessions.  I am pleased to report that the USCG will do just that.

I have learned from Ryan F. Owens, Chief, Industry Outreach Branch, at Coast Guard Headquarters that the Office of Port & Facility Activities (CG-544), the sponsor of the meetings, has arranged to broadcast the “listening sessions” over the Internet at  http://trial4.cdn.level3.net/USCGLivePlayer_040611.htm.  The meetings are scheduled for 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, on both August 2 (St. Louis) and August 18 (Houston).  The details for attendance in person are spelled out in the July 13 Federal Register Notice, but if you can’t make one, the webcasts will be the next best thing.  Get your oar in now while the Strategy is still in flux, rather than wait to bitch about its demands after it’s been adopted without the benefit of your wisdom.

The Coast Guard is actively seeking industry’s participation and input on the goals identified for the Strategy and how to best implement them under a “shared responsibility paradigm.”  Bravo Zulu to CG-544 for the webcasts and to Mr. Owens for fulfilling his title!
