EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. Are there any equipment available such as ear-splitting/sonic equipment to prevent pirates approaching a vessel?

RE:EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. Hi Rajesh,

Before asking for this equipment, please consider it if valuable or usable for this kind of actions. You have to consider the magnitude of the equipment, also all crew members training and a possible failure or opposite frequency used by "pirates"...

I am an ex-deck marine officer [almost 14 years] so I had the opportunity to pass with various types of vessel through "hot areas"... In my opinion an extra look-out and evasive manoeuvrings could be enough to avoid any problems related to "The Caribbean Pirates"...

Also consider it if the "greenpeace-type" organizations will not be against due to some interferences with mammals or other live-creatures around the respective vessel.

With regards and respects,

RE:EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. Yes, see www.currentcorp.com and look under Law enforcement

Long Range Acoustic Device and while on this Current Corp site have a look at the Night Navigator Camera systems also a very god tool to see the approaching vessels.

RE:EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. Rajesh
There are a variety of technical solutions designed to keep pirates off of ships, but frankly the question of whether the marine industry needs technology, technique or both is not definitive. There is a great article in the January 2009 edition of Maritime Reporter & Engineering News (www.marinelink.com) regarding this matter. Simply visit the website, click the "Magazine" tab and look through the archive. You can download an "Emagazine" quickly. If you have any problems, contact me and I'll have a paper copy sent to you.

RE:EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. The Long Range Acoustic Device is one piece of equipment I have seen used. It is pretty effective!

The down side is you have to have a good look out system to see the pirates in the first place.

RE:EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. If anyone is inerested there is now a system which incorporates onboard systems such as ECDIS, AIS, Radar together with infrared cameras called Automatic Sea Vision, which has been produced by a French Company and which is being purchased by a number of vessels going through the Gulf of Aden.

Company's Website is www.automaticseavision.com

THis system allows you to spot the potential threat of pirates much earlier!

RE:EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. Hello!
We think the pirates issue is a very controversiaL one but is a a really risk and preocupation for uruguayan sailors.
Together we agreed that the best solutionn is to buy weapons and create a 24/7 coastguard. Bye and watch the Pirates of the Caribbean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE:EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT PIRATES APPROACHING VESSEL. Hi Rajesh,

There are a number of devices available now to help combat piracy.

But as with all technology, it all comes down to the personnel operating them.

My company, Pioneer Protective Services Group (PPSG) offers low cost Maritime Security Services. We utizile Asian Special Forces Personnel and as a result of these reduced costs we are able to offer considerably lower prices without compramising on the quality of the service.

If you'd like, I could send you a brochure or even submit a proposal for you. Feel free to drop me an email anytime,

Thanks,

Daniel
