U.S. Army Fleet May 2010 Issue Marine News pg28 In the recently posted May 2010 issue of Marine News, Mr. Bryant discusses the various vessels in the Army fleet. However, some of his facts are incorrect. As a recently retired Army mariner, doctrine developer and requirements writer for the Army fleet, I feel comfortable in offering a few gentle corrections. The following listed vessels or craft are no longer in the Army inventory: floating machine shop and Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo (LARC). Thanks for the mention, one of the comments heard most frequently by Army mariners is, "The Army has BOATS!?!"

RE:U.S. Army Fleet May 2010 Issue Marine News pg28 I read with interest the "Often Forgotten" U.S. Army Fleet article in the May issue of MaritimeProfessional.com
I am an Army veteran of the "Forgotten" Korean War having served from 1951 to 1953 at the Port Of Inchon's 21st Transportatort Medium Port which was part of the KCOMZ, (Korea Communication Zone) during the war. I was involved with cargo and troop movement in and out of the port at that time in addition to transporting wounded by LCM's to the nearby Navy hospital ship "Repose".

I often refer to my having been in the U.S. Army's "Navy". It also prepared me for my civilian job that I have held for over 56 years at In-Place Machining Company www.inplace.com
as Technical Director. We at In-Place Machining Company have over 50 years experience in the repair field being involved in engineered repairs to Mills, (Aluminum, Cement, Paper, & Steel) Mines, (Coal, Copper & Iron) Power Plants, (Diesel, Fossil, Hydro, Nuclear, & Wind) Pharmaceuticals, (Mixers & Centrifuges) Transportation, (Bridge Mechanisms, Highway & Rail) Marine, (Ship Yards & Ship Voyage Repairs) plus emergency repairs for Offshore Oil Platforms and branches of the U.S. Military.

Thanks for "listening" to an old U.S. Army Fleet "salt".

Wallace (Wally) Wahlberg, formerly, Army US 55142998

RE:U.S. Army Fleet May 2010 Issue Marine News pg28 Hi Steve,
Don't worry about those blue water sailors. Any monkey can sail in a straight line. It takes a mariner to deal with shoals, sandbars and river currents. We have our annual reunion in May 20-22 this year at Ft Eustis. Lots of guys from 5th HB come.
Our website is www.3rdportreunion.com. Send your contact info to me at tugchick@aol.com and I'll add you to the contact list. We'll be sending the invitations out soon.
Becky
