Raoul A. Galan, Jr. of Research & Development Group is in search of more vessels to employ in his work cleaning up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Galan is looking for a vessel similar to the Soviet oil skimmer ship, Vaidogubsky, used in the Exon Valdez clean up, wiith additional specifications which he describes below. He's also looking to employ three super tankers with specification below.
SOVIET OIL SKIMMING SHIP
The Vaidogubsky, a 425-foot, oil skimmer/dredge, can capture 200,000 gallons of crude from the high seas each hour and can store up to 2 million gallons in its tanks.
1--The ship swings out long poles on each side. They attach to an oil-gathering boom which corrals oil as the vessel moves through the water.
2--Floating suction pumps or "weir" skimmers are then lowered into the captured oil.
3--The oil is then pumped through hoses into the vessel's tanks.
SUPER TANKERS
Need Three Super Tankers with 5 million gallon capacity each and pumping capacity of minimum of 44 hours each.
