Along with its curriculum expansion GL Academy sees its footprints grow in South Asia
GL Academy’s recently introduced courses in ship building and repairs comes as a big relief for the Indian industry which is plagued by severe dearth of trained manpower forcing companies to reschedule their delivery dates. Now with GL Noble Denton, the world class technical service provider for the oil and gas industry and GL Garrad Hassan, the world's largest renewable energy consultancy firm, having been brought under one umbrella the academy is all set to up its ante and to take on a major role in this direction.
GL Academy in India boasts of running the largest number of training programs right across the spectrum of maritime industry as well as management. The Academy which has already conducted over 70 conferences and seminars in the first ten months from the beginning of this year has greatly championed Germanischer Lloyd’s role in South Asia as a world class technical advisor and trusted partner in assurance, consulting and classification. In keeping with GL’s visionary goals, GL Academy has taken on a very decisive and responsible role in helping clients raise the performance standard through quality education & instructions and factoring in best management practices in all operations.
Head of GL Academy (South Asia) Kaushik K. Seal who has been instrumental in establishing the Mumbai based GL’s Academy for South Asia stated, “It is something we started in India and slowly we will take it to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh where we have established training institutes. We will undertake ship building and ship repair courses in a big way in India which has not been attempted by any classification society till date. GL believes in not only to spread awareness on important topics and critical issues among the industry players but also assist them in achieving high quality standards.”
GL Academy hit the headlines recently for establishing joint ventures as an added effort to create a top class trainer base. It is another means of investing in the most valuable resource - the employees. This augurs well with companies dedicated to ship manning, ship management, ship owning, shipyard and ship repairs, as GL offers a comprehensive range of attractive courses and workshops customized exclusively for each distinctive workforce. Company-related training programs are tailor made by GL Academy on the modular system. Seminar participants receive professional training with practical references and can take advantage of the experience of a globally operating panel of experts.
“We have also embarked on a novel and unique line of activities in India which is new among classification societies of the world. This is the setting up of ForumMaritime jointly with two leading players in the field. These include Marex, a maritime publication and ISF Maritime Services. The goal of ForumMaritime is to conduct conferences, seminars, workshops and other educative programs that not only help in raising the knowledge bar but leverage the Society’s role dedicated to ensuring the safety of life and property at sea, and the prevention of pollution of the marine environment.
